Duke Ellington Mural
This recognizable neighborhood icon welcomes visitors to the U Street entertainment district. Located near the Cardozo Metro, this mural of the great jazz musician is seen by thousands of travelers as they commute through the neighborhood where Ellington was born. Expanded upon and moved to its current location in 2004, the portrait overlooks the Plaza across form the Lincoln Theater in the heart of the District’s historic black entertainment area.
