Kennedy Recreation Center and Playground Mosaic Column
In partnership with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, and the DC Department of Transportation, City Arts is creating a mosaic column that will pay tribute to the history of the Shaw neighborhood and complement the architecture of the Kennedy Recreation Center. The column will features abstract designs and images of the notable people who lived or worked in Shaw, including Pearl Bailey, Helen Hayes, Langston Hughes, Thurgood Marshall, and neighborhood namesake Robert Gould Shaw.
