Shaw Community Mural

Created as part of the Murals DC anti-graffiti initiative, this mural pays tribute to the history of the Shaw neighborhood. Portraits of novelist and poet Langston Hughes and pioneering African-American historian Dr. Carter Woodson recognize two of the area’s most famous inhabitants. The nearby Dunbar Theatre hosted many legendary jazz musicians, and the central image depicts the future home of Shiloh Baptist Church, an organization playing an important role in strengthening Shaw’s community ties.
