In 2006, City Arts was contacted by the U.S. Department of Education to design a project that would engage local elementary school students in creating a large-scale public artwork. During a series of field trips to local Smithsonian museums, children were asked to sketch and photographs objects they responded to the most. These images were later incorporated into two segments of a temporary mural on the National Mall, with a third section paying tribute to the famous Washington Color School artist Gene Davis.
